What to Expect During Your Initial Consultation with TBRO
Thousands have turned to us here at Tampa Bay Radiation Oncology (TBRO) to experience the difference in cancer care and treatment. Since 2003, our physicians have practiced evidence-based medicine, keeping current with the latest research and treatment advances to provide experienced, state-of-the-art cancer treatments.
Ours were the first free-standing facilities in the Tampa Bay Area to offer CyberKnife Radiosurgery, Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) and Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) treatment options. By incorporating the latest innovations into our practice, we have become highly experienced and successful with these treatments, as we as with Triple Therapy Prostate Cancer Treatment with Prostate Seed Implants and Accelerated Partial Breast Irradiation with SAVI and Mammosite systems.
With standalone facilities dedicated to cancer treatment, we minimize patient exposure to other conditions. Our convenient locations in Tampa, West Tampa, Brandon, Sun City and Wesley Chapel relieve patients of the stresses of treatments in a traditional hospital setting, which can feel impersonal and make patients feel faceless and nameless. Here’s what you can expect during your initial consultation with TBRO.
Scheduling an Appointment for a Cancer Treatment Plan
The more information you can provide us when you schedule an appointment, the better. Tell us about your diagnosis and referring physician. We would also like to know if you’ve ever received chemotherapy treatment or previous radiation therapy. Also provide us with the date and facility of your most recent diagnostic exams, such as:
- CAT-Scans
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
- Positron Emission Tomography (PET/CT Scan)
- Ultrasound
Your First Visit to A Radiologist for Cancer
Bring discs of current diagnostics, if you have them. Also, bring lab results and any reports from previous treatments. If you don’t have your health information and case history on hand, let us know before your first visit and we will try to obtain them for you.
During your initial consultation, a TBRO cancer specialist will review your current medical problems, past medical and surgical history and medications. For a more accurate assessment, be prepared to answer questions about your family history, allergies and lifestyle.
To assess the extent of your disease, the doctor will perform a thorough physical exam. The physician may order additional medical tests, especially if they need more recent results.
Your TBRO physician will evaluate your need for radiation therapy. The therapy’s likely results will also be discussed. If radiation therapy is recommended after reviewing the results of your CT, MRI and/or PET/CT scans, your radiation oncologist will discuss the potential risks and benefits of radiation therapy. You’ll have ample time to ask questions about your treatment plan.
